‘Every word of this is false’: AOC slammed by Ted Cruz for saying, ‘It’s not a border crisis’

Sen. Ted Cruz slammed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wednesday accusing her of “gaslighting” while discussing her opposition to the talking points used by conservatives to describe the crisis at the border.

“Every word of this is false,” the Texas Republican tweeted in response to a clip of Ocasio-Cortez linking the people who are concerned about the situation at the border to white supremacy. ”It IS a #BidenBorderCrisis. It’s a humanitarian crisis. It’s a health crisis. It’s a national security crisis. And Dems are desperately trying to COVER IT UP. They’re #Gaslighting you.”

Ocasio-Cortez posted several clips on Instagram the night before, including the specific clip Cruz mentioned in which the New York Democrat was asked, “Why are you not addressing the border crisis and the kids in cages like you used to?”

“Are you for real?” Ocasio-Cortez responded before explaining why the term “border crisis” should be replaced with terms like “imperialism crisis,” “climate crisis,” and “trade crisis.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been widely criticized by conservatives over a perception that she was more critical of unaccompanied minors being kept in detention centers during the Trump administration than she has been about the record number of child migrants being held by the Biden administration.

President Joe Biden has declined to describe the surge of migrants at the border as a “crisis,” while politicians on both sides of the aisle have criticized his administration for not doing enough to address the issue or the 14,000 unaccompanied minors in custody.
